Bobby Solhi is the latest partner to join Borden Ladner Gervais’ (BLG) tax group. He will practise out of BLG’s Toronto office.

“He is bringing partner-level tax planning and dispute resolution expertise to BLG. We are very excited to now have two senior experts in the area on both sides of the country,” said John Murphy, BLG’s national managing partner and CEO.

In Solhi’s commodity tax practice, he advises Canadian and international clients in various industries on the GST/HST, customs and provincial taxes. He also has a very active tax litigation and dispute resolution practice, assisting clients with tax disputes at the audit, objection and appeal stages. He has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Additionally, Solhi also provides tax planning advice to privately held companies involved in business transactions on tax-efficient ownership structures, reorganization and business succession planning for their owners.

David Whelan, BLG’s national group head, specialized business, added, “Bobby is a great addition to our tax group. With his unique expertise, BLG is positioned to better serve the different needs of our clients throughout the country.”

Solhi obtained his LLB from York University, Osgoode Hall Law School in 2008 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2009. Prior to joining BLG, he led the commodity tax practice as a partner at a boutique tax law firm. He has also worked with the Ontario Ministry of Finance in the corporate and commodity tax branch.
