DLA Piper adds litigator as counsel in Calgary office

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP announced that Katrina Edgerton-McGhan has joined the firm’s Calgary office as counsel in the litigation, arbitration and investigations group.

DLA Piper’s press release said Edgerton-McGhan has a broad commercial litigation practice with deep experience in complex litigation and regulatory work and insurance law.

She has assisted clients in a wide range of sectors, including procurement, energy, insurance, finance, fraud, construction, Companies Creditors Arrangement Act proceedings, securities and estates.

Edgerton-McGhan has experience in oil and gas regulatory proceedings and litigation, procurement disputes, trade agreements and judicial review, regulatory and litigation injunctions, complex construction and builders’ lien matters (including lengthy trial experience), estates litigation, fraud litigation, sport disputes (as counsel and as an arbitrator), defence of large insured losses, securities commission charges, Occupational Health and Safety charges and allegations of professional negligence.

She has appeared as counsel at all levels of Alberta court and has extensive appellate experience. She has also appeared before the Federal Court and regulatory tribunals, including a number of appearances before the Alberta Securities Commission, the energy regulator and sport disciplinary tribunals.

Active in the legal community, Edgerton-McGhan is a member of the Association of Women Lawyers in Calgary, Lawyers for Equity, Access and Diversity (LEAD) Alberta, and Canadian Defence Lawyers. She mentors junior lawyers through a variety of organizations and gives back to the community through participation in court based pro bono programs.

She joins DLA Piper after articling and working at a prominent commercial litigation boutique firm, where she was vice-chair of its commercial litigation practice group.
