Litigation, arbitration and insolvency boutique Woods LLP announced the appointment of Caroline Biron as managing partner of the Montreal firm, effective March 1.

In addition to her legal practice, Biron is now responsible for the management of the firm.

According to the firm’s press release, Biron succeeds Richard Vachon, who succeeded James A. Woods — the founder and chair of the firm — as managing partner in 2015.

Like Woods, Vachon will now focus exclusively on his legal practice, as well as his role as adviser to the firm’s clients. Woods said he was delighted by the appointment: “Caroline is an experienced and unifying leader, perfectly suited to pursue Woods’ continued development on the national and international stage.”

“Thanks to our talented team, and the trust and confidence of our clients, we are in the privileged position to recruit the very best lawyers and to be retained in the most complex and strategic cases. I am honoured to be able to contribute to the continued success and development of the firm,” said Biron.

Biron practises commercial and civil litigation. She has pleaded before the courts of federal and provincial jurisdiction in Quebec, as well as before the Supreme Court of Canada.

An active member of the legal community, Biron is also very engaged in business and cultural circles. She is a member of the executive committee of the Institute of Corporate Directors, a director of the National Bank Trust Inc. and the president of the board of directors of the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde.
