The acting executive director of the Canadian Bar Association, B.C. Branch (CBABC), Kerry Simmons, has been named executive director, effective immediately. She has served in the acting position since late last year.

Simmons was called to the bar in 2000 and practised with Cook Roberts LLP in Victoria, B.C., until 2018 in family law, risk management, employment law, commercial disputes, estate litigation and professional negligence.

Simmons joined CBABC in 1996 as a law student and became a member of the CBABC executive committee in 2008. She also served on the CBA national board, leading and developing its strategic, governance and financial changes for three years, culminating in her year as national president in 2017-18. Most recently, she co-chaired the CBA’s truth and reconciliation task force.

CBABC president Margaret A. Mereigh said, “Kerry has made significant contributions as interim ED and we are thrilled to have her officially in the role. This is an exciting time for CBABC as we craft a new governance model to serve our strategic plan, and now we have an energetic, new leader to guide us in the years ahead.”

The CBA has over 7,000 members in British Columbia.
