McMillan adds two counsel to Montreal office

McMillan announced that Joséane Chrétien and Rish Handa have joined the firm’s office in Montreal, effective March 25, 2019.

According to the firm’s press release, Chrétien, who joins the litigation group as counsel, completed her bachelor of law at the University of Montréal and was called to the bar in 2003. She holds a master’s in law from both Oxford University and the University of Montréal. She is completing a PhD in civil law at McGill University that focuses on health law and ethics.

Prior to joining McMillan, Chrétien has been the member of two other national firms, as well as a member of one of Montreal’s litigation class action boutique firms.

She has acted for clients on breach of commercial contracts, shareholder disputes, franchise and distribution disputes and a number of high-profile class actions in Quebec. She has appeared before all levels of courts in Quebec, as well as before the Régie de l’énergie.

Handa joins as counsel in the firm’s business law group. He completed a bachelor of laws at the University of British Columbia, as well as a master’s in law at McGill University. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2006 and to the Quebec bar in 2011.

Prior to McMillan, Handa ran an independent business, technology and intellectual property (IP) practice, focused on corporate/commercial, technology, transactions, corporate financing and licensing deals.

He has represented clients at all stages, from startups and emerging companies to established corporations, and he has advised clients on IP licensing arrangements, commercialization and funding arrangements and privacy matters.
