Dentons announced that David Finlay has joined the firm as counsel in its real estate group.

According to Dentons’ press release, Finlay, based in Edmonton, brings more than 40 years of experience in the real estate development industry. He acts for developers in the acquisition, development, leasing and financing of commercial, industrial and residential developments.

“David is a well-known and highly respected practitioner, locally and nationally, and we are thrilled he has chosen to continue his practice at Dentons,” said Fausto Franceschi, managing partner of Dentons’ Edmonton office. “In addition to his high-end real estate development practice David also advises on complex corporate and governance issues in both the public and private sectors, and he has developed a niche area of practice within the medical community relating to governance and compensation models for physicians.”

Finlay is a community leader who has been involved with multiple charitable organizations in Edmonton. He is currently a member of the board of trustees of the University Hospital Foundation, where he also serves as vice-chair. He is a member and past chair of the Minerva Foundation, past board member of the Support Network Foundation, former director of the Canadian Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (CACOLE), and past member and chair of the Edmonton Police Commission.

Finlay received his bachelor of laws from the University of Alberta, was called to the Alberta bar in 1975, and he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2004.
