The partners of Miller Thomson LLP announced the election of E. Peter Auvinen as firm chair.

According to the firm’s press release, Auvinen steps into his role having been a 30-year commercial litigation and insolvency practitioner, a two-term member of the firm’s National Executive Committee and managing partner of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) offices.

Under his recent leadership of the GTA offices, the firm opened its 12th Canadian office, and established Miller Thomson as the only full service business law firm to be located in rapidly growing York Region.

Auvinen has also been a driving force behind the GTA offices’ aggressive recruitment efforts of the past four years and the firm’s global initiative focused on the Nordic region. As the Nordic Group Leader, he provides strategic counsel to businesses in that region as well as to their U.S.-based operations whose foreign investment strategies include expansion into Canada. He is also the honorary consul to the government of Finland in the GTA.

“I am honoured to have been elected by my fellow partners as chair,” said Auvinen, “and look forward to working with our lawyers to build upon the firm’s successes and chart a course for future growth and new opportunities.”

“As Miller Thomson moves into its next stage of evolution we are excited to have Peter take the helm in leading the firm forward, continuing the entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to service excellence for which we are known,” said Jeff Grubb, most recently interim chair of the firm’s executive committee.

Auvinen’s three-year term begins immediately.
