Dentons announced that Angela Shaffer has joined its Toronto office as counsel in the firm’s banking and finance group.

According to the firm’s press release, Shaffer, a senior and experienced financial services regulatory lawyer, regularly advises financial institutions and their boards of directors on issues relating to banking and insurance regulatory matters, corporate governance, compliance, risk management, anti-money laundering, transactions, securities, corporate and commercial law.

“Angela’s depth of banking regulatory experience brings a different perspective that will further enrich the exceptional service we can provide our clients,” said Blair McCreadie, managing partner of Dentons’ Toronto office.

Over the course of her career, Shaffer has held a number of senior executive and in-house roles, including general counsel, chief privacy officer and chief compliance officer, giving her a unique perspective on the challenges and risks faced by Canadian financial institutions and insurance companies.

Shaffer received her bachelor of laws from University of Windsor and was called to the Ontario bar in 1983.
