Stewart McKelvey announced that Halifax partner Mick Ryan has been named Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) chair for a two-year term.

The appointment was made by the Federal Minister for Sports Kirsty Duncan. Ryan is the first individual to fill this position from eastern Canada.

According to Stewart McKelvey’s press release, SDRCC assists Canadian athletes, including Olympians and oversees a wide range of issues, including doping problems, access to safe sports and the protection of all involved throughout the country, whether they are working nationally or internationally.

The organization educates the sport community about alternative dispute resolution and conflict prevention, which helps to resolve issues more efficiently and effectively. Ryan has been involved with SDRCC since 2015, when he joined the board of directors as a member.

Ryan, who was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1988, works with clients on a broad range of issues, including corporate and commercial disputes over shareholders, minority oppression claims, insurance coverage, tax matters, property disputes, family matters, trust disputes, construction law disputes, employment disputes and all other forms of litigation.
