KPMG in Canada announced that Justin Kutyan has been appointed senior partner of KPMG Law LLP.

According to KPMG’s press release, in this national role, Kutyan will lead the management of KPMG Law, the law firm affiliated with KPMG in Canada.

Kutyan joined KPMG Law five years ago as a tax litigation and dispute resolutions partner. He specializes in litigating tax cases and has extensive experience in trial advocacy. He has practised law for 13 years, first with the federal Department of Justice, then with a national law firm prior to joining KPMG Law.

“Justin has distinguished himself as a tax litigator with an exceptional ability to deliver excellent outcomes for his clients,” said Lucy Iacovelli, KPMG’s Canadian managing partner, tax and chief administrative officer, KPMG Law.

Mark Meredith, a founding partner of KPMG Law and acting senior partner of the law firm’s Management Committee, retired on Sept. 30. Meredith had been instrumental in the evolution of KPMG Law, helping to build what has become a national, multifunctional law practice with six offices across the country.

In addition, Anna Balinsky, partner, business law, has been appointed to serve on KPMG Law’s Management Committee, effective Oct. 1. Balinsky focuses her practice on business law, with an emphasis on advising companies with respect to day-to-day operations, mergers and acquisitions and structuring.
