Stewart McKelvey announced that having passed their respective province’s bar, associates Kara Harrington and Matthew Jacobs have joined the firm’s team in St. John’s, N.L., while associates Jennifer Thompson and Brendan Sheridan have joined the firm’s Halifax group.

According to the firm’s website, before moving to Canada, Harrington had a general business litigation practice in Boston, with a focus on securities litigation and white collar defence. Now with a broad litigation practice, Harrington has been involved in all types of civil suits, administrative matters and investigations.

Jacobs’ practice focuses on innovators. He has experience with acquisitions of intellectual property, negotiation of video game publication agreements, financings and syndicated loans, corporate transactions, advising creditors and bankrupts through insolvency proceedings and tax issues.

With a general labour and employment practice, Thompson advises employers on a range of matters from policies and procedures, to terminations and human rights issues. She has international business experience, having worked as a commercial officer at a multinational aerospace company in Germany.

Sheridan advises businesses and individuals on their Canadian immigration path. He guides Canadian and foreign-based organizations on possible routes to bring in foreign workers to fill a labour shortage, to bring in a foreign employee possessing specialized knowledge, or to allow the company to have the necessary personnel in place to fulfil the terms of a contract.
