Fasken announced that Jason Markwell is a new partner in the intellectual property (IP) group of the Toronto office.

According to the firm’s press release, Markwell has practised litigation in Toronto for more than 20 years, appearing as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in a number of precedent-setting decisions. The focus of his career has been on the representation of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in patented medicines (Notice of Compliance) proceedings, patent infringement and patent validity and damages actions. In addition to pharmaceutical patent litigation, he also has experience in patent cases involving the financial services, telecommunications, oil and gas industry, trademark infringement actions and a wide-range of other litigation matters.

Markwell is active in various IP organizations, including the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). He is also a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and a member of The Advocates’ Society.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jason to the firm. His experience, legal knowledge and expertise in the area of intellectual property litigation will be a major asset for our clients,” said Martin Denyes, managing partner for the Ontario region.
