Gowling WLG announced that John Peters has joined the firm as a partner in its employment, labour and equalities group.

According to the firm’s press release, Peters, based in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, comes to the firm with extensive experience across all areas of employment law — with particular strength helping employers navigate the termination process and severance obligations, as well as conduct workplace investigations. His practice encompasses a range of industry sectors, with an emphasis on federal undertakings.

Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Peters spent more than two decades at Export Development Canada (EDC), where he served as principal litigation counsel. In this role, he was responsible for leading EDC’s litigation management team and advising the corporation’s executive team, board of directors and human resources department on all litigation and potential litigation matters. Over the course of his tenure, he served as lead counsel on an array of complex employment, access to information and privacy files.

“An accomplished litigator, John is strongly equipped to help our clients manage risk and overcome significant employment obstacles on their paths to success,” said Wayne Warren, managing partner of Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office. “His extensive public sector experience, in particular, makes him a valuable addition to our firm’s growing employment law practice.”
