Davies LLP announced that Sarbjit (Sarb) Basra, a senior corporate partner and member of the firm’s management committee, will succeed Shawn McReynolds as the firm’s managing partner on June 1, 2020.

According to the firm’s press release, McReynolds will step down after 10 years as managing partner and remain a partner with the firm.

“I’m truly honoured that my partners have placed their confidence in me,” said Basra. “I look forward to building on the firm’s legacy and to advancing Davies’ tradition of exceptional client service.”

Basra joined Davies in 1992, upon graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School, and became a partner in 1996. He is a corporate lawyer with a focus on private fund formation, private equity investment transactions and mergers and acquisitions. He advises many of the leading private equity and venture capital firms in Canada and the U.S., and he has served as an adviser to the government of Canada on various venture and growth capital initiatives designed to attract capital from the private sector. Basra will continue to devote time to his practice.

He has served on the firm’s management committee for seven years.

McReynolds said, “We are proud and delighted that Sarb is stepping up to take on this leadership role here at Davies. He has the personal qualities of a strong leader. His sound business judgment, practical advice and thoughtfulness have earned him the respect of his clients and colleagues.”
