■ Steven Baum has joined Gowling WLG as a partner in the firm’s Toronto office. Baum will work with the tax group to provide advice to clients across a range of sectors, with an emphasis on financial institutions. Baum was formerly a partner with Wilson & Partners, an affiliate of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

■ Willms & Shier has hired two new associates. Julia Paillé practises in the areas of environmental law, environmental litigation, energy and natural resource law and Aboriginal law. Anand Srivastava has expertise in assisting a broad range of clients with environmental law and litigation issues.

■ Hugo Babos-Marchand is a new partner in Borden Ladner Gervais’ Montreal office. Babos-Marchand is joining the firm’s banking and financial services and bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring groups. His work focuses primarily on bankruptcy and insolvency law and encompasses banking and commercial law litigation.

■ Nakul Bhatia, Colin Flynn and Alex MacDonald are new associates in McLennan Ross’ Calgary office. Bhatia has experience in diverse civil litigation matters, including shareholder actions, oil and gas litigation, commercial lease disputes, product liability, class actions, personal injury and insurance claims. Flynn practises in the areas of litigation, insurance and risk management, and labour and employment. MacDonald has a labour and employment practice and advises unionized and non-unionized clients on issues related to wrongful dismissal, employment standards, human rights and employment contracts.
