Commission backs pay freeze for federal judges

Federal judges’ pay will likely stay frozen for the next four years (apart from compulsory cost-of-living increases), but the Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association (CSCJA) isn’t complaining.

The fifth independent quadrennial commission, which advises Ottawa on pay and benefits for Canada’s 1,123 federally appointed judges, recently recommended against the staged, 7 per cent over four years pay raise the Canadian Judicial Council and the CSCJA sought (on top of its members’ automatic statutory bumps for inflation, projected at more than 9 per cent over four years)....
