DLA Piper names new chair of Canadian IP and technology group

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP announced that Sangeetha Punniyamoorthy has been appointed ‎chair of the Canadian intellectual property (IP) and technology group.‎

According to the firm’s press release, since joining the firm in 2016, Punniyamoorthy has been a valuable member of the firm’s IP ‎practice. With over a decade of experience litigating copyright, patent and trademark matters, ‎Punniyamoorthy has been at the forefront of significant wins at the highest levels of the Canadian court, ‎including the Supreme Court of Canada, where she has appeared twice.

An active member of the IP community, she was chair of the Ontario Bar Association IP-IT Section from 2017-‎‎2018, serves on the Canada Amicus committee of the International Trademarks Association and is a ‎fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. She is currently a global fellow with the Federal ‎Circuit Bar Association.

Punniyamoorthy will succeed Chris Bennett and Bruce Stratton who were co-chairs of the Canadian IP and technology group ‎since 2016.‎
