■ Karen Pirie has joined Gowling WLG as a partner in its Calgary office. Pirie, a leading litigator, will be a member of the firm-wide litigation and dispute resolution and medical defence and health law groups. Pirie practises primarily in the area of professional negligence, providing litigation counsel to physicians, dentists and other health care practitioners.

■ Borden Ladner Gervais has hired 11 new associates. Raphaël Girard and Nils Goeteyn join the Montreal office. Girard focuses on privacy and data security, IT, advertising, marketing and sponsorship law and cybersecurity. Goeteyn works in transportation, maritime, international and environmental law. The Ottawa office has added Garett Schromm, Éliane Tremblay, Alicia Maiuri, Braek Urquhart and Heather Dawe. Schromm specializes in environmental, municipal, expropriation and regulatory law. Tremblay in commercial litigation and Maiuri in commercial real estate. Urquhart works in the tax field, while Dawe specializes in corporate/commercial law. Pierre Gemson is a new commercial litigator in the Toronto office. Vancouver has added Katherine M. McNeill, John Pratt and Andrew Nathan. McNeill focuses on business and corporate commercial law; Pratt on construction law, commercial litigation, insurance and tort liability and arbitration; and Nathan in labour and employment, pensions and benefits law.

■ Nicholas Cummings is a new associate in Lerners’ business law group in its London, Ont., office.
