Hyde HR Law announced that Oren Barbalat has joined the firm as a senior associate.

According to the firm’s press release, Barbalat joins from Levitt LLP and will be based in the firm’s downtown Toronto office.

John-Edward C. Hyde, founder and managing partner of Hyde HR Law said, “Client service and partnership is at the centre of what we do. We’re able to do it better and with more agility because our team was trained and developed within big firms, but we’re no longer bogged down by big firm red tape.

“This is why the team and I couldn’t be happier that Oren has come aboard to serve our clients. His experience and efficiency are exactly what our clients need in today’s marketplace.”

Barbalat brings experience working for both employers and employees.

For employers: he has helped businesses of all sizes assess and manage their workplace liabilities, including terminations and new contracts, workplace accommodations and purchases and sales of businesses. Barbalat has particular expertise working with technology companies and startups and is attuned to their specific employment law needs.

For employees: he has experience advising on and negotiating executive contracts and termination packages with complex compensation structures, as well as litigating wrongful dismissals and human rights violations. He also advises on the enforceability of non-compete and non-solicitation agreements for individuals contemplating a career move.

Barbalat was called to the bar in 2016, after earning his JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to attending law school, he obtained an honours BA and an MA from the University of Windsor. He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario).
