WeirFoulds adds three partners, associate

WeirFoulds announced that Peter Jacobsen, Carlos Martins, Andrew MacDonald and Emma Romano have joined the firm.

According to the firm’s press release, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience acting for clients in the areas of media and defamation law, aviation law, and constitutional law, among other areas.

“I am happy to welcome Peter, Carlos, Andrew and Emma to the WeirFoulds team and to announce this expansion of our service offerings to our clients,” said Wayne Egan, managing partner. “Combined, they bring more than 70 years of experience providing counsel to some of Canada’s largest media companies and local and foreign air carriers. We are thrilled to gain their expertise in assisting clients in these industries.”

New partner Jacobsen has over 40 years’ experience in practice as a litigator and provider of legal advice in diverse sectors, notably in media. He practises mainly in the areas of media law, defamation law, administrative law and constitutional law and has appeared before all levels of court and before numerous administrative tribunals.

Martins also joins the firm as a partner. He is a litigator with over 20 years’ experience providing legal advice in diverse sectors. He specializes in aviation and defamation law.

He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition, he has appeared before various administrative tribunals on behalf of his clients.

New partner MacDonald has a varied practice that includes particular experience in media and defamation law, aviation law, administrative law, professional liability and employment disputes.

He has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court and Court of Appeal; the Supreme Court of Canada; the Federal Court; and administrative tribunals including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Canadian Transportation Agency. He has also acted in proceedings before several other courts, tribunals and inquiries.

New associate Romano has diverse experience in civil litigation. Her practice includes media and defamation, professional liability and aviation law, as well as commercial and general civil litigation. She has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario.
