Additional Ontario Court of Justice reopenings slated for Nov. 30

The Ontario Court of Justice has announced the resumption of family law matters, criminal trials and preliminary inquiries at additional court locations starting Nov. 30.

According to a Nov. 16 notice to the profession and the public, criminal trials and preliminary inquiries in the Ontario Court of Justice will resume Nov. 30 at court locations in Alexandria, Bradford, Elliot Lake, Kirkland Lake, Picton, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout.

Family law matters will resume Nov. 30 in Elliot Lake, Kirkland Lake, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout, states a Nov. 17 notice.

It adds that first appearance court/first court date before a clerk will no longer be waived starting Nov. 30. These appearances before a clerk will resume and they will be held remotely. Also, beginning Nov. 30, affidavits of service must be filed.

The reopenings are part of the Ministry of the Attorney General’s phased-in return-to-operations plan, which began July 6. As part of the return to operations plan, the Ministry is implementing health and safety measures in each courthouse.
