Dentons announced that it has strengthened its construction and litigation and dispute resolution groups in Canada with the addition of partner Alim Khamis. Based in Vancouver, Khamis joins from Dentons’ Dubai office where he spent six years in the construction and dispute resolution practices.

According to a press release from Dentons, Khamis, admitted to practise in both Canada (British Columbia and Ontario) and Australia, and having previously practised construction law in the Middle East and Australia, specializes in resolving complex disputes in the construction, infrastructure and energy sectors. He has acted for clients internationally, such as across the Gulf Cooperation Council, Australia and Asia, in all forms of dispute resolution including litigation, international and domestic arbitration, adjudication, expert determination and mediation, and sits as a mediator who regularly provides training to other mediators.

John Sandrelli, managing partner of Dentons’ Vancouver office, said, “Alim brings rich international experience from his time working in the UAE and Australia which will enhance our ability to serve our clients wherever in the world they do business. Following several new joiners to our Vancouver office recently, Alim brings exceptional leadership as well as technical ability which will allow us continue to grow our offering locally, nationally and globally.”

Karen Martin, partner and co-lead of Dentons’ construction practice in Vancouver, and president of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, said, “Alim is a fantastic addition to our team. An experienced disputes lawyer with deep expertise in the construction and infrastructure sectors which continue to see a great deal of activity across British Columbia and beyond, we are delighted to welcome him to our practice which acts for some of Canada’s most high profile businesses across the industry.”

Dentons recently welcomed two other lawyers to its litigation and dispute resolution team in Vancouver, counsel Julie Facchin and senior associate Samantha Chang.
