Katz says debt act changes ‘long overdue’

Perhaps it is hardly surprising that with record levels of personal debt in Canada, many consumers are having difficulty paying that down. Combine that with a perceived low level of financial literacy, and many consumers have been left vulnerable to the practices of unscrupulous collection agencies.

Ontario’s new Collection and Debt Services Act, which just came into force, attempts to provide consumers with more and better options to avoid that fate.
