New IP partner for Gilbert’s

Gilbert’s LLP welcomed Paul Banwatt as the newest member of its partnership.

According to the firm’s press release, Banwatt’s practice includes high tech intellectual property (IP) litigation, emerging technologies and music and entertainment law.

In early 2020, Banwatt co-founded Slingshot, Gilbert’s LLP’s service for startups and small businesses. He is the former chief operating officer and general counsel of the 3D scanning startup Matter and Form Inc. 

Banwatt has also had a successful career as a musician. His band, the Rural Alberta Advantage, has received two Juno nominations, a CBC Music Award, the Galaxie Rising Star Award, played the Coachella Music Festival and continues to appear on Billboard sales and radio charts. Paul’s music has been featured in numerous publications including Spin, NME, Playboy and The New York Times.

Banwatt is the author of the music law blog, The Music Lawyer. His previous 3D technology law blog, Law in the Making, was featured in Landslide, the intellectual property magazine of the American Bar Association.
