Heintzman receives honorary LLD

Ontario lawyer Thomas G. Heintzman was recognized by the Law Society of Upper Canada with an honorary doctor of laws degree at the Call to the Bar ceremony at Roy Thomson Hall on Jan. 27 in Toronto.

An independent mediator and arbitrator, Heintzman has established a formidable reputation as one of Canada's foremost lawyers, educators and authors, having contributed immensely to the legal profession and the administration of justice. Aside from having practised as litigation counsel with McCarthy Tétrault for close to 50 years, Heintzman was president of the Canadian Bar Association (1994-95), president of the Ontario Bar Association (1989-90) and a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada (2003-11). In 1980, Heintzman was appointed Queen's Counsel. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1998.
