Ontario class action launched against Uber

A class action against the ride-sharing company Uber has been filed in Toronto.

The employment law firm Samfiru Tumarkin LLP filed the case with the Ontario Superior Court against Uber Technologies Inc. on behalf of Uber drivers in the province.

The suit is seeking a class action certification and a court ruling for the drivers to be classified not as contractors, but as employees. As employees, Uber drivers would then have the same benefits, rights and protections of other employees in Ontario.
