Lawyer urges improved Crown screening of cases

The recent collapse of a case against two men charged in firearms and threatening offences underscores the need for better screening of cases by the Crown, says the lawyer involved in defending the two men.

Toronto-based criminal lawyer Jordana Goldlist, who represented the two accused, argued that the dismissal of the case highlights the need for the Crown to employ a proactive charge screening process to assess the quality of evidence and whether a case has a strong chance of being successfully prosecuted.
