Former Supreme Court Justice Cromwell joins BLG

Thomas Cromwell, who retired last fall after a distinguished time with the Supreme Court of Canada, has joined Borden Ladner Gervais LLP as counsel.

Cromwell served as a Supreme Court justice from December 2008 to September 2016. Prior to that, Cromwell was a judge with the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal from 1997 to 2008. Before his appointment as judge, Cromwell was executive legal officer to former Chief Justice Antonio Lamer from 1992 to 1995.

Cromwell began his career practising law in Kingston and Toronto and has taught in the Faculty of Law at Dalhousie University. Cromwell obtained his bachelor of music and law degrees from Queen's University and subsequently attended Oxford University, where he earned a degree in civil law.

He holds honorary doctorates in law from Dalhousie, Queen's, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Université de Moncton and is an honorary fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
