LSUC votes to cap referral fees, alter advertising rules

After a lengthy debate on Feb. 23, the Law Society of Upper Canada voted to cap referral fees, insisting on increased transparency in the practice of collecting such fees, as well as approving new rules for advertising.

Benchers voted 35-9 to cap referral fees rather than banning them outright, with many saying that prohibiting fees would be a step backward.
