Crown to appeal Newfoundland officer's acquittal in sexual assault case

The Crown has filed a notice to appeal the recent acquittal of a Newfoundland police officer who was charged with sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman after he gave her a ride to her home.

The appeal was filed at the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, Court of Appeal.

The grounds for the appeal will focus on Supreme Court Justice Valerie Marshall’s decision to omit instructions to the jury regarding position of trust.
