Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced that Toronto partner Walied Soliman has been elected as chair of the firm in Canada, effective March 24.

Soliman, 39, is considered the leading expert in takeover defence and shareholder activism in Canada. He is co-chair of the Canadian special situations team, which specializes in hostile M&A, activism and complex reorganization transactions.

His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, financing, corporate governance and structured products. He will chair the partnership committee, an elected representative committee of the Canadian partnership and play an important external role with the firm’s clients.
