Private member’s bill would require sexual assault case training for judicial candidates

A private member’s bill coming before the Ontario Legislature will look to ensure that those recommended for a provincial court judge position have training on how to handle sexual violence and harassment cases.

Anne London-WeinsteinToronto Liberal MPP Cristina Martins (Davenport) will introduce a bill in the next few days that looks to amend the Courts of Justice Act. It would require judicial candidates to have completed comprehensive training or education in sexual assault law.
