B.C. court implements support person guidelines

The Provincial Court of British Columbia announced in a notice to the profession on April 10 guidelines for having a support person present in small claims or family proceedings.

Chief Judge Thomas Crabtree“We know that going to court can be an intimidating experience, especially if you’re presenting your case on your own, without a lawyer,” said Provincial Court Chief Judge Thomas Crabtree in a statement.

“Self-represented litigants say having someone attend court with them to provide emotional support, take notes, organize documents and make quiet suggestions...
