Five Smart & Biggar associates earn trademark agent specialty

Five associates with Smart & Biggar/Fethersonhaugh have passed their qualifying exams and are now registered trademark agents in Canada: Jennifer Ponton, Kevin Unrau, Shirley Liang Komosa, Kevin Siu and Kendra Cann.

Ponton, Unrau, Liang Komosa and Siu all work from the Toronto office.

Ponton's practice spans all areas of trademark law, including counselling, prosecution and litigation. She regularly responds to correspondence from the Trademarks Office relating to trademark registrations, applications and oppositions, as well as assists with litigation matters.

Unrau focuses on prosecuting patent applications before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He works with clients in various industries, including those focused on industrial, electrical and mechanical technologies.

Liang Komosa focuses on IP litigation and in particular pharmaceutical patent litigation. Her clients come from industries such as pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, clothing, food and beverage, publishing and automotive.

Siu's practice focuses on all areas of IP litigation including patents, copyright and trademark matters. He works with clients in the pharmaceutical, technology and entertainment industries and with mechanical, chemical and industrial engineering firms and brand owners both nationally and internationally.

Cann works in the firm’s Ottawa office. Her practice primarily focuses on assisting clients with obtaining patents in Canada in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology, medical diagnostics and pharmaceuticals.
