■ Nisha Anand has joined Gilbert’s LLP as a partner. Anand is a scientist turned litigator with a doctorate in molecular biology, genetics and cancer. She has a keen interest in the area of biologic drugs. Anand joins Gilbert’s from a Toronto global law firm where she represented pharmaceutical clients in complex multi-jurisdictional patent cases as part of the firm’s international litigation team. She has extensive knowledge regarding regulatory aspects of the pharmaceutical industry and patent litigation experience in other industry sectors including IT and oil and gas. Anand has represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court and the Federal Court of Canada.

■ Sana Halwani is a new partner at Lenczner Slaght. Halwani is a seasoned IP litigator who has taken on complex cases in innovative industries, from biologics to business software. She has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s in bioethics, and with registrations as both a patent and trademark agent, she easily handles the most technical cases.

■ Aird & Berlis LLP has added Faruk Gafic and Miranda Spence as new partners. Gafic is a member of the firm’s real estate group and commercial leasing team. His practice involves all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions and financing. Spence is a member of the litigation group. She has a broad practice with an emphasis on general commercial proceedings, financial services litigation and construction and leasing disputes.
