■ Erika Chamberlain has been named the new dean of Western University’s Faculty of Law, effective May 1. She has been associate dean at Western Law for the past five years. Chamberlain is a three-time recipient of the Teaching Honour Roll and has twice received the J. McLeod Professor of the Year Award from the Student Legal Society. Her work on tort law has been adopted nationally as a textbook and she is considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on the tort of malfeasance in public office. Her work on impaired driving laws has been cited by provincial courts of appeal and the Supreme Court.

■ Linda Lucas has been appointed as chief executive officer of Vancouver’s Roper Greyell LLP. The appointment puts the firm on the leading edge of a trend that is moving away from a traditional legal business model to one that sees clients as partners and puts their business first. Lucas is responsible for driving the firm’s long-term strategy and vision with an emphasis on client collaboration. It is a model accounting firms have been using for years but now legal practices are moving in the same direction as clients require their legal advisers to integrate with their strategic direction.

■ Two new partners have joined Minden Gross LLP, Ryan Gelbart and Matthew Getzler. Gelbart focuses on business law, with an emphasis on commercial finance and private business transactions. Getzler works with domestic and international tax planning, primarily for owner-managers and other private corporations.
