Ruling provides termination clause clarity

Employment lawyers in Ontario are welcoming clarification from the province’s top court on the interpretation of termination clauses in employment agreements.

The 30-page ruling in Wood v. Fred Deeley Imports Ltd. 2017 ONCA 158 reiterates long-established principles around the special treatment owing employment contracts, say experts.

And that should eliminate confusion created by last year’s Court of Appeal ruling in Oudin v. Centre Francophone de Toronto Inc. 2016 ONCA 514.
