■ McMillan LLP has been named one of the winners of the 2017 Canada’s Top Employers for Young People. The editorial competition recognizes employers that offer the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people at the beginning of their careers.

■ The Canadian Forces Liaison Council is honouring Hawthorne Piggott & Company (HPLaw) with two awards. The Burnaby, B.C., firm has won the national award for its support of the reserve force and the provincial award as the most supportive employer in British Columbia. HPLaw’s senior partner Ted Hawthorne will be presented with the national award by Governor General David Johnston in a ceremony in Ottawa on May 22, 2017. Hawthorne will be presented the provincial award on March 25, 2017, in Vancouver.


■ Paul-Erik Veel is joining Lenczner Slaght LLP as a partner. Veel has experience in a wide range of areas of practice. He also teaches economics and law at the University of Toronto Law School.

■ Torkin Manes LLP has welcomed Sonu Dhanju-Dhillon and Catherine Nicholson as new partners. Dhillon joins the firm’s litigation group, with a focus on business law. Nicholson advises clients on business and commercial arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, cross-border transactions, corporate finance and investment funds.

■ Mervyn Abramowitz is a new partner with Blaney McMurtry LLP. Abramowitz is a certified specialist in civil litigation and bankruptcy and insolvency law.
