Regulating cannabis

Canada’s government has promised to introduce legislation in the spring of 2017 to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. The drafters of the legislation are armed with the recommendations of a federal task force on cannabis legalization and regulation, whose final report was released in the fall of 2016.

The task force recommends removing cannabis from the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and introducing separate federal legislation. The Supreme Court of Canada foreshadowed more than a decade ago that such a decision could raise serious issues...
