Betting against the house on duty of care

Should casinos owe a duty of care to their patrons in parallel to licensed alcohol providers? Not surprisingly, gambling interests dissent, largely on the basis that a) individuals should bear responsibility for the consequences of their decisions; b) gambling has no visible equivalent to drunkenness; and c) a duty would create indeterminate liability for provincial governments. This article challenges these positions and argues that change may be closer than ever.
