Awards

■ The Law Society of Upper Canada has awarded Dr. Cindy Blackstock and Waleed Abu al-Khair with the 2016 Human Rights Award. The award presentation will be on Feb. 22, 2017, in Toronto. The award, started in 2013, recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of human rights and/or the promotion of the rule of law provincially, nationally or internationally.

Appointments

■ The Law Society of Saskatchewan has elected Erin Kleisinger as its president and Craig Zawada as vice-president for 2017. Kleisinger is a partner with McDougall Gauley LLP in Regina. She has a varied commercial and litigation practice, with a focus on university and privacy law. Zawada is a co-owner of WMCZ Lawyers in Saskatoon. His practice includes intellectual property law, as well as business and corporate structuring.

Moves

■ Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein has hired three new associates. Ren Bucholz joins the firm as a commercial litigator whose practice spans complex business disputes involving intellectual property, defamation, new technologies and more. Daniel Rosenbluth works in commercial litigation, public and administrative law, class actions and labour and employment law. Lauren Pearce has a diverse practice covering numerous areas of litigation, including commercial, employment, union-side labour, insolvency and professional discipline matters.
