Prothonotaries get raise, judges’ pay frozen

Federal judges’ pay will be frozen (except for inflation increases) over the next four years — but Ottawa has agreed to a big hike for the Federal Court’s prothonotaries in a move that could also assist Ontario’s 16 case management masters.

On Oct. 31 the federal government tabled its formal response to the June 30 recommendations of the fifth quadrennial Judicial Compensation and Benefits Commission — just meeting the four-month deadline set by the Judges Act.
