'Inherent jurisdiction' of trial judges affirmed by court of appeal

The Ontario Court of Appeal has determined that a pretrial judge erred when deciding he lacked the authority to allow defence counsel to record vocal evidence with a high-quality microphone in order to have a police officer's voice analyzed for voiceprint identification.
