Cochrane, Sangster join Fasken Martineau in Calgary

Gary Cochrane and Scott Sangster have left Dentons and joined the Calgary office of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP as partners in the banking and finance group.

Cochrane, who had been with Dentons in Calgary for the past 30 years, received his law degree from Dalhousie University in 1980, while Sangster joined Dentons in 2004. He graduated from the University of Alberta’s law faculty in 1986.

"We are pleased to welcome Gary and Scott to the firm. Their experience and knowledge will greatly benefit our clients,” Clarke Barnes, Fasken Martineau’s co-managing partner for the Calgary office, said in a news release.

His co-managing partner, Robert Maxwell, added, “The addition of Gary and Scott will be a tremendous asset to Calgary’s banking and finance group, which is an important area of focus for the Calgary office."

Cochrane specializes in representing domestic and international banks and financial institutions with respect to every aspect of financing transactions. He has acquired expertise in project finance for construction, oil and gas and real estate developments. He also advises on matters relating to loan transactions, receivership and corporate reorganization.

Sangster’s practice focuses on helping lenders, institutional or otherwise, implement a wide variety of debt-financing transactions, including complex inter-creditor and priority arrangements.

In addition to Calgary, Fasken Martineau has offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, London and Johannesburg.
