Joanna Dawson, a business and marine lawyer, has joined the business law group of McMillan LLP in Vancouver as a senior associate.

"We are pleased that Joanna is joining the firm. We look forward to having her work in our busy corporate/M&A practice, and our transportation practice will benefit from her experience in the marine industry,” John Clifford, McMillan’s national group co-ordinator, business law, said in a release.

Dawson, who graduated with a law degree from the University of British Columbia and was called to the B.C. bar in 2012, comes to the firm from DuMoulin Black LLP in Vancouver, where she practised corporate/commercial and securities law.

She started her career practising corporate/commercial and securities law at Miller Thomson, then moved to Bernard LLP, where she further developed her corporate/commercial skills and gained expertise in maritime law. She will be continuing her professional development and servicing her marine industry clients in McMillan’s business and transportation groups.

Dawson currently serves as the vice-president (Western) of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association.

“Joanna joins a team of experts who cover all transportation modes: rail, marine, terminals and intermediaries, trucking, aviation and aeronautics and logistics,” François Tougas, co-chair of the firm’s transportation group, said in the release. “She adds further industry breadth to our practice and expands our wide range of product offerings in transportation and regulatory matters.”
