Miller Thomson adds real estate lawyer Genga as partner

Genga is a leader in the area of commercial real estate, having acted on some of the country’s largest transactions.

He maintains a diverse commercial real estate practice covering all aspects of transactions, including routinely advising clients in connection with purchases, sales and financings, sale/leaseback transactions, lease securitizations, mortgage bond and debenture issuances, limited partnerships, co-tenancies and other joint-venture arrangements, private equity and mortgage investment funds, commercial leasing and design-build transactions.

Genga has been involved with many high-profile transactions, including acting as counsel to the purchaser of 90 CIBC retail banking locations and related leaseback transactions; a consortium that acquired 17 shopping centre properties from Primaris Reit; for the purchaser of a $2 billion industrial real estate portfolio comprising more than 400 properties; for the lead agent in connection with the $1.23 billion financing of the acquisition and leaseback of seven federal office properties from the government of Canada; in respect to the issuance of $1.2 billion of debentures guaranteed by a pension fund; as well as acting as co-lead negotiator for the Ontario government in connection with its negotiated land-swap settlement with developers respecting lands comprising part of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
