Fasken Martineau announced that Toronto partner Alan M. Schwartz will receive the Ontario Bar Association’s Award for Excellence in Taxation Law. He is to be honoured at a dinner on June 21, 2017.

Schwartz’s contributions to Fasken Martineau, the Canadian tax bar and to the Canadian legal community are substantial. He has trained generations of tax lawyers, was the former leader of Fasken Martineau’s tax group and was the managing partner and national chair of the firm at the time of the merger that created Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP.

Schwartz was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1985. His broad practice involves advising on corporate transactions, estate and trust planning and tax dispute resolution. He has been involved in a variety of leading tax cases and is the founder and editor-in-chief of the Carswell Tax Service, "GAAR Interpreted" which is a leading publication on the general anti-avoidance rule.

The Award for Excellence in Taxation Law was created to recognize exceptional contributions and/or achievements by members of the OBA in the area of taxation law. Recipients of the award must demonstrate leadership in the taxation law bar through knowledge, experience, skill, commitment, passion and strength of character.
