Fasken Martineau announced on June 16 that Bernard Synnott, a partner and Bâtonnier of Montréal, received the 2017 Mérites award from the Barreau du Quebec. The award was to be bestowed during a ceremony later in the day.

Synnott has been appearing before the courts at every level since 1987, defending the interests of public and private corporations, financial institutions and public and quasi-public Crown corporations.

He is well known to members of the bar and the judiciary, having served as both Bâtonnier of Quebec (2014) and Bâtonnier of Montreal (2015).

“We heartily congratulate Bernard for this well-deserved honour which enhances the reputation of our firm. He applied his talents and perseverance to modernizing the professional order, described by the Barreau of Québec as “no small feat,” commented Éric Bédard, managing partner for the Quebec region.

Together with Johanne Brodeur, Synnott received the award for having introduced the new governance at the Barreau during his term as bâtonnier (2014-2015).
