Friday, June 23, 2017 @ 11:57 AM | By John Chunn

Following extensive consultation with industry stakeholders, on May 31, the Ontario government introduced Bill 142 that, if passed, would significantly amend and modernize the Construction Lien Act.

To help navigate the proposed amendments, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP will host a seminar on June 28 with a panel of experts who will examine the business implications of the proposed changes.

The panellists include Doug Wass and Mark Lawrence, both seasoned U.K. construction lawyers, who will provide additional insight, tips and traps into how similar U.K. legislation has been implemented in practice.

Topics discussed will include:

  • the new prompt payment regime;

  • the new mandatory adjudication regime;

  • clarifications regarding the act’s application to alternative financing and procurement (AFP) projects;

  • and technical amendments relating to holdback, liens, bonding and trusts.
