Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP is launching an innovative new program that gives emerging technology companies access to invaluable top-tier legal services.

The law firm is providing an initial $1 million worth of “flexible and subsidized legal services” to qualified startup tech companies as part of the Nitro program, Rob Granatstein, the firm’s managing partner, said in a news release.

"Emerging technology is critical to the future of the Canadian economy, and Blakes is dedicated to supporting its development,” he added.

Nitro will start in the Toronto-Waterloo Region Corridor, a fast-growing and world-leading emerging technology cluster. It will be overseen by an experienced team of Blakes lawyers with complementary skill sets, including extensive experience in working with startups.

Brock Gibson, the chair of Blakes, said he believes Nitro will be integral to the success of emerging technology companies.

"Nitro will provide top-tier legal advice at pivotal moments in the development of these companies," he said. “We want to be there to see new companies succeed. We will do this by providing exceptional work supervised by experienced people.”
